Tiffin Glass Company began in 1892 when A. J. Beatty & Sons Glass factory moved from Steubenville, OH to Tiffin, OH and merged with the United States Glass Company. At that time, 19 factories made up the United States Glass Company and Tiffin was designated to Factory R. During the Great Depression many of the United States Glass Company factories shut down. The Tiffin Factory, which initially produced pressed tumblers and later switched to producing a wide variety of beautiful stemware and handblown wares, remained open. In 1958, the corporation started to experience financial difficulties and changed ownership in 1963 when four former employees decided to purchase the Tiffin factory. The company changed hands a few more times until being bought by Towle Silversmiths in 1979. Towle continued to manufacture glassware at the Tiffin factory until 1980. Today, Tiffin stemware is highly desirable for its beautiful design and high quality.
