The Fostoria Glass Company began producing glass in 1887 in Fostoria, Ohio.  They relocated to Moundsville, WV when natural gas supply ran low in Ohio. Fostoria originally produced hand crafted stemware often etched with beautiful detailed patterns.  Their focus shifted to colored glass in 1924, mainly pastels, but switched to deeper colors starting in the 1930s. World War II changed the focus once again as many glassware companies, especially Fostoria, as the material needed to make the colored glass was then needed for the war efforts. Fostoria continued manufacturing glassware until 1983, when the company was sold to Lancaster Colony Corporation.
